LETS TALK

" my advice to women: Don't settle ...find mr. PERFECT boots? "
~Nicole Julius

Hear what she has to say:

During a common task of mine, I believe the Lord gave me an object lesson that was specifically for me and I believe can be beneficial to others. I share now with you what I believe was revealed to me. Hopefully this message can help you or someone you come across.

So, it's very cold here in DC and there's snow everywhere. I knew that my converse sneakers would do me no good so I went shopping for some boots. I knew I wanted black boots to the knee, no heel. I'd been looking for a while now; from Cali to DC and could not find what I was looking for. Finally my brother took me to this outlet mall to find some boots. I went through that entire outlet mall and looked in every store that had shoes. I surprised myself for how focused I was and how distracted I was not. Ok, so finally I found this random store that had the exact type boot I was looking for and it was on sale. It was great because it was what I wanted, a great price and great timing because it snowed 6 inches the very next day.

Ok, so this is the word I received: I shop very quickly and efficiently when I know exactly what I want and exactly what I need. I didn't purchase my boots in haste. I looked around for a while and I found what I wanted for the price I wanted and I am satisfied.

Think back, how often have you gone shopping not really knowing what you were looking for? How often have you left such a day of shopping only to get home, try your items on and then think "why did I get this" "why didn't I try this on before I bought it?" How often have you been caught up in a sale, purchased random items only to realize later that you must have been crazy to spend so much in VS and ended up having to scramble for your receipt and take it all (well, maybe not all) back??
And the question remains; how often do people do this same thing with their relationships? Whether because people are in a rush, don't really know what they want, don't know what they can handle or whatever the case, too often people get into relationships only to look back and think "why???" And then there are those who are not patient and don't want to invest in themselves or "save up" to get what they really want and instead, they go straight to the back of the store and check out the "clearance chicks" or "blue-light special boys." And then there are just practical problems: there is no Free People at 5-7-9. Jessica Simpson does not design for Payless and you won't find "the one" at the Green Room.

Shopping is stress free when you are patient, know what you want and you have money in the bank. So now, let's raise our glasses to knowing oneself enough to know what one wants and needs, to being proactive and seeking that which is desired, and to taking time to invest in ourselves so that we can have the best to offer others and the world.
